Testimonials

Recently I initiated a colleague feedback survey to gather supporting information for my performance review. I have included some of the comments gathered through this survey as reflections from others on my teaching practice and general work life. My student teaching survey was also returned with favourable results, although no students made written comments so I have not included any of these.

Personal Effectiveness

"I have worked closely with Joelle teaching the Saudi students and Joelle was a support teacher with me in the BMETS programme (Basic Mechanical Engineering Trades). The English for Saudi students course was very well organised so that both students and any contributing staff knew exactly what was happening on any day. She made very good use of 'TED' talks and other technology in her lessons. Joelle was aware of shortcomings in students' understanding of plagiarism and general skills of report writing required in other courses. She discussed with staff what was needed with regard to report writing and developed the course accordingly. She prepared the Saudi students very well for progressing on to their degree courses. She is an excellent communicator and contributes well to our team."

Team Contribution and Leadership

"Joelle has clearly made significant contributions to the team. She has undertaken a major role in planning and resource development for the team taught Technical Literacy paper. She also brings character and colour to the general team environment and contributes positively to the environment in which we work."

"Joelle is a great team member and has shown strong leadership for someone newly graduated and joining a new team. She has taken on responsibilities and leadership (for example Technical Literacy and responsibility for Bridging English) that have been highly valued by her senior colleagues. The way in which she goes about doing these things is highly appropriate."

Otago Polytechnic Values and Commitments

"Joelle has attended (and continues to attend) courses and workshops to enhance her understanding of the OP culture. She lives values of quality and improvement and is always looking for ways to check herself and encourage quality within our environment."

"It is clear from Joelle's teaching practices that she is committed to sustainable practice, the OP Maori strategic framework as well as the OP strategic priorities."

 Overall Comments

"Joelle is a very organised teacher who uses any tool available to make the learning experience good for her students. She is a passionate teacher and it comes through in her teaching. She is a good listener - both with students and colleagues. She also adds fun to the maths team."

"Joelle's particular strengths are her professional attitude to lecturing, her excellent grasp of relevant pedagogy and her bright, caring, humorous presence in any situation."
